Abstract

In this article, we present the Thymèle project, an open-access dictionary of the performing arts featuring extensive multimedia content, designed to strengthen the Greek language within a multilingual European context. The creation of Thymèle is in line with European language policies and aims to address the challenges associated with multilingualism and interculturalism. The Thymèle dictionary is an essential tool for countering the growing anglicisation in higher education and for promoting linguistic and cultural diversity. It establishes correspondences between Greek terms and their equivalents in several other languages, whilst standardising definitions and translations in the field of the performing arts. This approach facilitates intercultural dialogue and academic exchange. Thymèle’s open platform democratises access to educational resources and fosters international collaboration, whilst adopting inclusive, gender-neutral language. Furthermore, collaboration between experts from different disciplines ensures the relevance and accessibility of the content. Finally, Thymèle serves as a model for similar tools in other academic fields, promoting linguistic diversity and cultural enrichment within European universities.
