Building on existing research on language policies and multilingualism in higher education, this paper examines the language policy of the University of Strasbourg through both top-down and bottom-up perspectives. To do so, we analyse two types of data: declarative data (such as institutional documents and official discourse) and empirical data collected through questionnaires distributed to members of the university community. This dual approach allows us to explore how language policy is managed institutionally and how it is perceived by the stakeholders involved. By comparing the findings from these two data sets, we aim to gain a deeper understanding of both the development and the reception of the university's language policy. This analysis will also serve as a basis for formulating recommendations toward the establishment of an explicit and formalised institutional language policy that promotes multilingualism and fosters intercultural dialogue within the university setting.
